"In 2010, a female student accused two of Izzo’s men’s basketball recruits of rape, although they insisted the encounter had been consensual. Although federal law required Michigan State to open a Title IX investigation after the student filed her initial complaint, the university did not do so for two months, and then later concluded that the players did not violate university policy. No charges were filed in the case, and both players appeared in every regular-season game as freshmen.

In addition, former Spartans basketball player Travis Walton was serving as an undergraduate student assistant coach in January 2010 when he was accused of punching a female student at a bar hard enough to knock her off a barstool and give her a concussion. Walton pleaded not guilty at his arraignment in February and was permitted to travel with the basketball team while his case was pending."

"Walton eventually reached a plea deal with local prosecutors because witness statements contradicted the alleged victim’s account. The assault and battery case was dismissed and Walton instead pleaded guilty to a civil infraction for littering.

That same month, Walton and two Spartans basketball players were reported to the athletic department for sexual assault. Walton was eventually fired, but if Izzo punished the players at all, it happened behind the scenes.

The ESPN story details multiple examples of Michigan State’s lack of transparency and failure to properly handle Title IX complaints that have left the school open to legal action."

Nobody wants to talk about it....
