... This felt a lot like Texas Tech's 59-45 win over Sam Houston State in last season's opener. The offense put up big numbers overall but sputtered for stretches, while the defense was mostly just bad.
... I think I'm just going to refer to the defense as the non-offense for the time being. This is as one-sided of a football team as I can recall.
... No surprise: Pat Mahomes was tremendous tonight. He's accounted for more yards and touchdowns through the first three games of the season than any other Texas Tech quarterback in the Air Raid era.
... Demarcus Felton is the best running back on the roster and I don't think it's very close. I will be baffled if he isn't the starter when Kansas comes to down in a week and a half. He's not as fast as Justin Stockton and maybe he's not as good with blitz pickup, but Felton is far, far more effective as an every-down runner.
... Has Jonathan Giles emerged as the team's leading receiver? Six catches, 186 yards, three touchdowns. He and Dylan Cantrell tied for the team lead in targets with seven.
... The first five drives for the Red Raider offense were as clean and efficient as you will see. The rest of the game was pretty forgettable. There were far too many penalties and self-inflicted wounds. They can get away with that against Louisiana Tech and probably Iowa State and Kansas. They won't be able to get away with that against the other teams on the schedule.
... The non-offense is just bad. I could spend 50 more words telling you how bad it is, but you all have seen it over the last two games.
... La. Tech's 45 points tonight was the most it has scored against a Power Five team since putting 57 up on Texas A&M in 2012.
... La. Tech is the fifth-straight FBS team to put up 44 or more points against Texas Tech.
... Jarred Craft's 151 rushing yards tonight are a career-high.
... La. Tech had 10 rushing plays of 10 or more yards, with five of those going for 20 or more.
... Two-straight games without a forced turnover.
... It's going to be a long bye week for this Red Raider team.
