  • There's no doubt about this one -- every Texas Tech fan that left Jones Stadium today, did so feeling good about the Red Raiders' performance this afternoon. For the first time since 2013, Kliff Kingsbury's team posted a dominant win. Texas Tech wasn't perfect by any stretch -- and one has to wonder if UTEP would have scored more than 20 if Aaron Jones hadn't left the game with an injury -- but the team flexed its Big 12 muscles in a way that fans hadn't seen in over a year.

  • Through six starts, Pat Mahomes has completed 58.1 percent of his passes, posted 2,354 total yards of offense, accounted for 24 touchdowns and turned the ball over just three times. Today against UTEP, he was responsible for Texas Tech's first six touchdowns (four passing, two rushing) and left the game with 384 total yards.

  • The Red Raiders logged 18 chunk plays -- a run of 10-plus yards or a pass of 15-plus yards -- against the Miners. UTEP logged seven, but only two after halftime.

  • Texas Tech's two-leading tacklers on the afternoon were both linebackers -- Dakota Allen led the way with 10 tackles (1 TFL) and Micah Awe logged seven (1 TFL, 1 FF).

  • Welcome back, Pete Robertson -- three solo tackles, a sack, two TFL, a PBU and a hurry.

  • I thought Breiden Fehoko played well today, much improved from Week 1.

  • Kingsbury said that Davis Webb was "100 percent on his reads" and made all of the right decisions during his snaps against UTEP.

  • The running game didn't seem like it was very effective early on but, boy, it got right in a hurry. DeAndre Washington's 51-yard touchdown run came on a nifty bit of scheme where the Red Raiders spread the Miners out from sideline to sideline. Once Washington burst through the line, it was game over. He finished the day with 138 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries.

  • Texas Tech was penalized just four times against UTEP and ended the game with a plus-2 turnover margin. The Red Raiders are now plus-5 on the season in turnover margin.

  • Kingsbury was "glad to see" the Red Raiders improved on finishing from the first to second week.

  • Kingsbury thought the defense played better in Week 2. "Got the adjustments made at halftime. Really flew around. I thought Pete (Robertson) brought a lot of energy."

  • "We knew if we got them out of that ball control running they like to do, they would have a hard time keeping up with our offense."

  • Kingsbury praised Jakeem Grant for how he's carried himself as a senior. He said it's "night and day" from Grant's last two seasons. Grant caught seven passes for 141 yards and a touchdown against the Miners.

  • The season starts for real now. There won't be too many teams that have a tougher three-week stretch in the first half of the season than Texas Tech.
