We live inside the Heights just north of 20th close to Studewood St. Last year we took upon doing a bathroom/addon remodel to our home. We went from Approx. 1660 sq ft. to just under 2000 sq. ft. HCAD nailed us with an increase in our appraisal value of $315,000 to $505,000.
Currently, I am working on reducing that value. I went through the ARB board a few weeks ago and got the Market Value down from $612,000 down to $512,000. However, since I was not successful to get the value below the appraisal value, which property taxes are based on it did not affect my tax situation for 2015. I am debating going on to the next step, full arbitration, and also find a good property tax attorney.
Connor and Associates has gotten to big and all they make they profits on is sheer volume. For this project I feel like I need a bit more customer service and hands on property tax guy. Any of you guys have any suggestions? I understand the Heights is hot, but for me adding on about 15% it sure feels like they are unfairly raising my taxes.
