Has anyone ever been a part of forming a professional organization on a state level?
I am a perfusionist in Dallas and myself and several others want to take a more active role in how our profession is managed, on a state level, due to what we perceive as an encroachment into our scope of practice by another profession(really 2).
We are in the brainstorming phase of forming this group and have basically come up with we need to form a non-profit, tax exempt entity with a board of directors to include a cpa to handle the books as we would be collecting dues and sponsorships from vendors to put towards a state conference for CME’s. The 2 primary objectives of this organization will be to better define, legally speaking, our scope of practice so others groups can not encroach any longer as well as create a conference to add value to members.
Does anyone have any advice or a CPA and/or an attorney to help us get started in this venture?
