Hey Guys,
I've received an amazing response from my fellow Red Raiders thus far so I wanted to send out a second post for any who missed it. For those that are participating or have donated so far My family and I thank you!
My daughter, Harper (I follow the rules, photo below) was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis a little over a year ago at just 4 weeks old. Cystic fibrosis is a progressive, genetic disease that causes persistent lung infections and limits the ability to breathe over time. In people with CF, a defective gene causes a thick, buildup of mucus in the lungs, pancreas and other organs. In the lungs, the mucus clogs the airways and traps bacteria leading to infections, extensive lung damage and eventually, respiratory failure. In the pancreas, the mucus prevents the release of digestive enzymes that allow the body to break down food and absorb vital nutrients.
My Family and Friends have helped us start "Harper's Heros" in her honor. All proceeds go to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation - The mission of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is to cure cystic fibrosis and to provide all people with the disease the opportunity to lead full, productive lives by funding research and drug development, promoting individualized treatment, and ensuring access to high-quality, specialized care. The CF Foundation is the world’s leader in the search for a cure for cystic fibrosis, and nearly every CF-specific drug available today was made possible with their financial support. They are a donor-funded, 501(c)(3) nonprofit that is fully accredited by the Better Business Bureau’s (BBB) Wise Giving Alliance program.
That being said, Harper's Heros will be hosting a Cycling event in Leakey, TX (in the heart of the Hill Country) on Saturday, May 27th. The start and finish line is located at the beautiful Frio Canon community http://friocanon.com/. there is water front access to the Frio River, a picnic lunch will be provided along with a sponsored margarita stand, beer stand, and lemonade stand. This is the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend so those of you floating nearby or camping at Garner state park, please buy ticket and support us.
