So the thought is no P5 would join the Big 12 but I don't know how much y'all have been following the PAC but their network has had issues and their expenses are huge which limits bottom line revenue to members. They are actually around the Big 12 pro rata.
So apparently the B1G and PAC gor expire before the Big 12. The PAC has an issue with viewers given their time slot.
Here is what needs to happen in my view:
1. The Big 12 needs to be comeptive and make the playoff. Revenues need to continue to increase.
2. Online media technology needs to countinue growth and challenge conference network model which can easily happen.
3. The Big 12 gives a new 20 year GOR.
If all of those criteria are met, I think you could actually see the two Arizona schools get traction. They fit ok with geography and would be a good package. Other candidates would be Missouri, Arkansas, or Colorado perhaps.
I know some think it's crazy and I'm not saying it's probable but expansion is so fluid. If you have a couple changes like cord cutting and a GOR everything changes. We thought for sure we were going PAC and then it all changed.
I really can see a situation here if the PAC network fails and Big 12 was willing to extend rights with good revenue that you could get some actual legitimate candidates and therefore not expand now. OU and Texas own this league and who wants to give that up? I have to think this is the hope of leadership otherwise it really is just waiting until expiration.
