I know nothing about brakes on a car. So I took my car to the dealership today because the brake pad message comes on saying I need new brake pads. I'm expecting to have to shell out $700 at least, but I get a call from my service advisor saying the pads are fine by they have to "repair a wire harness to one of the brake sensors" for $300.
For anyone who knows about brakes on a car (if you're out there):
1) Wouldn't a wire harness be covered under a new car warranty? The car is a 5-series BMW.
2) From what I've found a new sensor for a 5-series should cost $250-400 installed depending on labor charges. If that's the case is $300 to "repair a wire harness" a little on the ridiculously high side or is there actually some labor that has to be done to "repair" it (seems like you'd just replace it, but then again I'm not sure I know what a wire harness really is. It sure doesn't sound like something expensive.
If it's engine stuff I usually know enough to be dangerous but I have no idea whatsoever about brakes. I've always liked this service advisor but that just sounds like a ridiculous price for a wire harness.
