I went down a wormhole this week because I was looking at Lubbock property records at work and came across the name Binion, as in Binion’s Las Vegas. It turns out Benny Binion bought all of his boots from Willie Lusk & funded his business. He ended up owning Lusk’s building & the site was owned by his family until this last year.
Anyway, the link provides some interesting info into Lusk. I didn’t know much about him but it was cool to learn some boot making history. I had no idea Lubbock had a boot making legend, that happened to be black, that was born in San Angelo.
