Bryan McNeal, mayor of McLendon-Chisholm, told WFAA he plans to tell the nearby neighborhood that they do not need to evacuate and that the water would need to rise ten more feet for the dam to fail.
Officials are advising homeowners on Fireside Drive, Parade Point, Granite Ridge Road, Highwater Crossing, Stampede Run, or downstream on Brushy Creek to prepare to evacuate if an order is issued, emergency management said in a statement.
The Rockwall County Office of Emergency Management will issue any evacuation order through a Nixle Emergency Alert, officials said. You can sign up for alerts by texting "RCOEM" to 888777.
