Would love to hear if anyone else has had horrible travel experiences. Here's mine that happened last Thursday. It was a Murphys law trip.
-Also for those that were pissed I went on and on in the Leach thread, you will laugh and say karma
1) Was headed to Newport Beach/Malibu for my wife's 30th birthday. Got to AA at DFW in plenty of time for my flight last Thursday before last. The valet was 15 minutes long and so backed up I couldn't move my car to a parking spot in the garage and was stuck.
2). Finally got to AA check-in and they said I signed in 44 minutes instead of 45 minutes and it locked me out of the system therefore I couldn't bring any checked bags. I begged and pleaded since my dad worked at American for 15 years loading luggage but they wouldn't budge on the one minute. We were screwed. My wife was having a surprise party she didn't know about on Thursday afternoon so I let her board without bags while I scrambled for flights to John Wayne Airport. Southwest had one aisle seat left for 600 bucks (one way) leaving 3 hours later with a layover in Vegas so I took it and drove from DFW to Love Field with all the bags.
3) I was the one who put my credit card down for the house we all split in Malibu for the weekend and during my layover in Vegas the SOB we rented from on airbnb texted me and said he was cancelling our reservations for the weekend. We had 15 people total coming in for the weekend so I went into full panic mode. Every airbnb house that fit that many people was booked. I then had to get on the connecting flight right when he texted me giving me the awful news.
4) My wife's best friends' dad passed away earlier in the week and she couldn't make it so I had to eat another 600 dollars because I was the one who put my credit card down for the Malibu rental house. I wasn't going to Larry David haggle with her because of the nature of his passing. So now I was down 1200 bucks in one day before I even get to Newport Beach.
5) we luckily found a place in Westlake Village at 1130 am the next day that was nowhere near the ocean.
So all in all, I lost 1200 dollars, had to fight airbnb for a refund( takes 5-15 days for refund to take place) , missed my wife's surprise 30th birthday party, and flew all the way to California and didn't even get to see the ocean. I made the best of it and Tito's definitely helped.
Lessons Learned through mistakes:
- Always get to the airport 2 hours early so I never miss a flight again. just saddle up at the bar until flight time.
-Never put your credit card down for a group rental because you will get stuck holding the bag if someone in your party cancels. Also getting money back from airbnb is a pain in the a**. I had to take screenshots and document everything.
-Sorry if that was long winded but if you hate me from the Leach thread you should be smiling like this after you read that
