I have heard more than one discussion on local news radio stations discussing the practice of tipping in bars and restaurants. Commentators are saying the practice is coming “under review“ ( by who I don’t know ) and that many businesses that use tip pooling for servers and white staff are reconsidering it as a method of compensation. Personally, I don’t buy it. Most everyone I know who has worked for tips likes it, because it promotes a meritocracy and, to the extent they get tipped in cash, it helps them skirt taxes.
But what do I know? I was just wondering if those on the board who are in the restaurant and bar business would weigh in with their thoughts.
