Almost exactly 7 years ago, after a couple years of trying to get pregnant, we didn’t think we were going to be able to have any more kids. So, in a moment of weakness, I let my wife talk me into going to see a litter of “mini” golden doodles. Fast forward about 10 months and we had both a newborn daughter and an 80 lbs dog. We had our differences in the beginning, but Junie B. turned out to be about the sweetest dog you can imagine. Always up to give someone a hug or nudge people for pets. I’m positive that getting her helped relieve enough stress on my wife to help us to get pregnant.

About a week ago she started acting really lethargic, not eating much, not jumping up on our bed at night and not begging to go on walks, etc. We took her to the vet yesterday and they found a pretty large splenic mass in her abdomen. The X-ray showed that it has likely hemorrhaged at least once already and has made her severely anemic.

Apparently there’s at least a 60+% chance that it is a malignant and very aggressive form of cancer. But the only way to determine for certain if it’s cancer is through a surgery to remove the spleen, which will run $6,000-8,000 or possibly much more if there are any complications. The vet said if they do find it malignant (which she suspects), it’s likely already spread and even a very successful surgery would only give us a max of about another 3 months with her.

The vet said that the mass could hemorrhage again at any time and she could potentially bleed out or at least need an emergency care & transfusion. So, we’ve made the decision to have her put down with an at home vet today.

Breaking it to our daughters was one of the worst things we’ve had to do. I went and bought her a big ass ribeye steak for dinner last night and she got eggs & sausage for breakfast this morning.

Anyway, not sure what else to do until the vet gets here, so figured I’d Facebook post for you idiots. This sucks, throw your dogs an extra treat tonight.
