OT: Streaming NCAA games from iPhone to TV

I am going camping with a group and we were going to watch the games late at night around the campfire. I was going to stream the games onto my iPad using the NCAA app and then use a HDMI adapter to connect it to a projector. The problem I am having is the adapter is the old 30 pin model and the app does not work on the older IOS. I got a 30 pin to 8 pin connector but nothing will stream from my iPad to the TV using this method.

First, does anyone know if this is possible and maybe do I just have the wrong hardware? If someone has done it, can you please let me know how to make it work?
