My wife and I are about to be debt free other than our mortgage. I already have a significant 401k/IRA combination for my age, and I have a good amount of stock options that vest this year. I am on track to meet my goals for both of my children’s 529ks.
1. I am heavily positioned in Index Funds and O&G stock in in my retirement accounts.
2. I am considering opening a brokerage account and dabbling in longer term investments for a more accessible long term savings that can also be liquidated if an emergency arises.
3. My thought was to buy into high yield large cap stocks, and let it sit for at least 10 years to hopefully go towards an investment property in northern New Mexico. I would contribute between 5k and 10k annually.
I have never done this before, but I was considering the following stocks for this investment:
1. GE - 25%
2. Verizon - 20%
3. Merck - 20%
4. Cisco - 15%
5. Ford - 20%
I’d appreciate input from anyone that has a deeper background than I do in investment strategy and knowledge of the markets.
