I just need to rant and know I’m not alone here. As avid sports fans I feel like we tend to have a lot of children who are also into athletics and sports.
I’ve made it abundantly clear over the years basketball is my first love. It also happens to be my daughters. She’s been grinding in the gym since she was 3 (while her older sister was practicing)
She’s been playin at a high level and playing up for yrs now. We’ve been contacted via social media emails etc. from scouts watching her play from NCAA certified events. Coaches dropping into her DM’s etc…etc…I’ve had head coaches of college programs tell me face to face he’d love to get her and on full scholarship.
Cut the story short-she was/is/maybe?? playing in the Nike shoe circuit this summer with EYBL.
But…she screwed up her knee 2 weeks ago in a pickup tournament as a fill in player. Local tournament that didn’t matter-just playing for the love of the game. She’s a hustler and always wants to play. (I’m sure many of you have those kiddos as well. )
We took her into urgent care within the day and they got a referral out to an ortho. Initial Dr. doesn’t think she blew out her acl or mcl based on assessment but based on the ref on the court-he said her kneecap definitely popped outta socket.
So we have our 1st specialist visit this upcoming Monday whom I’m sure will order more scans etc.
DONT EVEN GET ME STARTED ON HOW LONG ITS TAKEN TO GET IN WITH A SPECIALIST. …that’s another story imo.
But -our older daughter also was a college level athlete at the D3 level and she actually did tear her MCL/ACL (so not first rodeo)
This is just for me to vent and any advice to give as a dad who is with her in the gym every week while she knocks down 1000 makes a week, who had been to 2-3x training sessions a week, plus all the random practices etc.
I feel like we have members in my shoes before and I need some support for myself let alone how I support my kiddo who now is only able to play 2k against me
