MOUNT CALM, Texas (KWTX) Blue jean shorts and a Texas Tech T-shirt are daily wear for Krystal Brown, 24, a mother of two children who attend school in Mount Calm, a town of just more than 300 residents along State Highway 31 between Waco and Hubbard.
Brown accompanied her children to Mount Calm Elementary School as classes got underway this week.
She says she was sitting in a classroom, trying to calm her son’s back-to-school nerves, when a school official pointed at her and asked to speak with her.
“He told me that he wanted to be as nonabrasive as possible, but he wanted to address that some young men have noticed my attire when I was walking in,” Brown said.
“He felt that it was offensive and confusing to young children for a young mom, like me, to be wearing something like that because it could be misconstrued as appropriate in the school,” Brown said.

But went she went to the board meeting on Tuesday, she didn’t get the response she was looking for, so she has also filed a complaint with the Texas Education Agency.
“I sent in a formal complaint to the TEA because at that point (school board members) said they couldn’t address it with me because it wasn’t on the agenda and I just feel like clearly nothing is going to be done about it,” Brown said.
School officials said Wednesday the issue has been resolved and they are moving on, but Brown wants more to be done.
