Bigelow, who directed "The Hurt Locker," has put out a riveting movie in this one. Well-acted, tight script, taut directing. It should receive a number of Oscar nominations.
It's based on a controversial incident at the Algiers Motel in Detroit in the riots of 1967 that killed 43. Three young blacks died during interrogation by Detroit police at the motel. Three Detroit cops were charged but acquitted.
Story is largely based on police reports, trial testimony and interviews with witnesses. We think all hell breaks loose now compared to other eras, but really it's not true. There was just no social media to magnify and consume events like today.
