If any of you cavemen listen to Michael Smerconish you will have heard an interview with the author of the book Range, David Epstein. Link to book below.

As a parent, this is important to me but I wish I had heard this early in life.

According to his research, you are better off generalizing in athletics and professionally. It’s directly conflicting with Gladwell’s 10,000 hour rule. Edit: he’s really making the point that 10000 hours as the path the success (I.e, obsessively pursuing one goal) is not the typical or only path to success but most elite athletes are actually generalists for much of their life until they really focus in. Compare Tiger Woods to Roger Federer.

Also some really interesting stuff in when we should pull the plug if somethings not working (investments, jobs, etc.).

Thought this was interesting and some of you much smarter guys would enjoy it. Anything I can do to help my two boys have a happier life, I’m all over.
