FYI from tonight…
“Sarkisian did not reveal who would start against Texas Tech, but it appears Card will have another opportunity.
Multiple sources told Orangebloods that Card received first-team reps during practice this week and is expected to start on Saturday. Sarkisian said Ewers would travel to Lubbock and suit up. However, Ewers was in uniform this past week when Texas hosted UTSA and never played.
I was told the target date for Ewers to return remains October 8 against Oklahoma. Ewers was expected to miss four to six weeks after sustaining the injury against Alabama. If Ewers returns against Oklahoma, that would mark four weeks.
There is optimism Ewers could return next week and face West Virginia at home. Ewers’ recovery appears to be going well and he has not sustained any setbacks.
Nevertheless, Ewers has been sore after practice this week, and nobody within the building is willing to put the redshirt freshman back on the football field until he has recovered. They believe Texas has an opportunity to win every game Ewers plays this year and nobody wants to risk his long-term health.
Unless there is a dramatic change before Saturday, Card will receive another opportunity to start for the Longhorns.”
