181 years ago today Santa Ana began laying seige to The Alamo. Approximately 185 men chose to stay and fight a Mexican Force of thousands, knowing they had no chance of surviving. They held their post for 13 days.

72 years ago today, 5 Marines and 1 Navy Corpman - including Texan Harlon Block - raised the second Flag over Mount Suribachi on Iwo Jima. Sgt. Bill Genaust would capture this iconic moment on color video while photographer Joe Rosenthal captured an image that is widely believed to be the most reproduced photograph in history. Bill Genaust and 3 of the Marines never got to see these images as they were KIA on Iwo Jima.
