Here is an paragraph from an solicited email that I received. It involves a practice called "Top Leasing" and one of my favorite oil producers. The writer of the email is not an attorney and has no interest in this case. I do not have anything involved in this case either. However, since it involves at least one person that we know of, I thought I might float this.
" Apache is currently suing Double Eagle over a top lease in Reagan County. This matter is currently before the Texas Supreme Court; Double Eagle lost the original case and then lost the appeal. Apache is vigorously defending their lease against Double Eagle's encroachment. Given the facts of the case, Double Eagle is going to lose. This goes back to the Texaco Pennzoil case in about 1986 that bankrupted Texaco."
Any of you Oil Producers or others knowledgeable have an opinion on this?
