I am reading Jim Hall the famed Texas Racers book. Titled .....Texas Legend, Jim Hall and his Chaparrals. Great Read. He was oil money.
Now on the inside cover is a photo of Jim with big hat. So here is the story.
There is a most famous oil field out west called the Yates Field..
Ida Yates ran a dry goods store years ago. Somebody owed him money and could not pay.
The man said I will trade my land to you for what I owe you.
The land was worth only 25 CENTS and acre so Mr Yates decided to just keep it.
Later a oil company came to explore the land and hit the Yates Field. On of the Largest in the WORLD !!
