Something occurred to me while reading the thread on everyone's job losses:
I didn't feel it was appropriate to post there because I feel for those guys. But I do find it interesting...
I make my living by making insurance companies pay for injuries their insured caused and I frequently hear the argument from people that they don't want their rates to go up (by the way claims and verdicts really have nothing to do with it, see this article). But no one is saying "I'm ok paying a little more for insurance if it means you have a job and these people get fair compensation for their injuries."
Please don't read this as a commentary on the value of a career or anything like that. This is about a mindset, because again, rates are not affected by verdicts in reality but people think they are. I just thought it's an interesting observation that even I share when it comes to paying a little more so people can have good jobs and a fair wage. I'm more inclined to pay a little extra at the pump versus have these guys out of a job but I don't feel that way in other areas.
