By now, we have all heard of the fatal shooting of Sgt. Harold Preston in Houston. I hate hearing that any police officer gets shot, or for that matter, I would prefer that nobody gets shot. But this situation is particularly saddening and at the same time, very galling to me.

Every single account I have read about Sergeant Preston indicates that he was a wonderful human being and a great cop. He dedicated over four decades of his life to keeping the people of Houston safe, and was known as a wonderful mentor to younger officers, as he was a man who preferred to be out guiding them on the streets rather than sitting in his office. He had recently moved back into his elderly parents‘ home to care for them. This man was a top quality police officer and human being. He was set to retire at the end of this year.

Houston Police Chief and general bomb throwing windbag Art Acevedo issued the following statement:
“Those of us who knew, loved and respected Sergeant Harold Preston knew him to be a wonderful, courageous and humble servant from an amazing family. Though many may never say his name, or honor his life of selfless service, we will never forget. RIP kind of hero, we will never forget you.”

What a nice statement ... but I have a problem with windbag Acevedo’s moving tribute. No, it’s not because Chief Windbag spent a lot of time this spring and early summer giving stirring activist statements about being against inappropriate police shootings, because let’s face it, someone can be against inappropriate police shootings and also saddened by the fatal shooting of a police officer. No my problem is this:

The scumbag who murdered this fine man is 51 year old Elmer Rolando Manzano-Martinez. Good old Elmer has a pretty hefty criminal history, but that isn’t in and of itself the problem, because we anticipate our police officers will encounter bad dudes in carrying out their duties.
My problem? Old Elmer isn’t supposed to be here. He is unlawfully present in the United States, and has been deported before. If he had been appropriately turned over to ICE and deported, he wouldn’t have been in Houston to snuff out the life of a dedicated public servant. But see, Houston is a “Sanctuary City” so local authorities don’t inquire about the immigration status of people it encounters, and thus, scumbags like Elmer don’t necessarily get turned over to ICE when they act up. Elmer has been the subject of domestic disturbance calls before, in fact, just recently. He should have been turned over to ICE, but he wasn’t.

Here is Chief Windbag commenting on the Texas Anti-Sanctuary City law:

“It is so counterintuitive, counterproductive... Trust me when I say I will manage my own workforce... The legislature is not going to decide the priorities of the people of Houston, or of the Houston Police Department. Our priorities will be based on what our local community wants.“

Thanks, Chief Windbag. It’s assholes like you who help make this kind of shit possible. If Elmer wasn’t here, as he should not have been, Sergeant Preston would still be alive. Thanks, Art. You keep on keeping those community priorities straight, you POS.

Acevedo is a hypocrite and full of shit.
