Spoke to the jack-of-all-trades associate head coach today and he had some interesting notes I thought I would share with you lot.

On looking for a new punter in the portal with Mac out of eligibility and Honore in the portal:
"We're not looking for a new punter we're just gonna go for it on fourth down every time, that's kind of what everybody wants us to do anyway or don't like us doing. No, the plan was along was if we lose Austin hopefully Brook could get there and he got better but still, we gotta take care of Texas Tech. That's my main priority with everything. That being said, we'll find somebody. There's a lot of people that want to come here, it's a great place. So that's my job, we're gonna get a good one. We'll probably have to get somebody else to walk on, maybe another guy. That's kind of the specialist world, it's no different than the transfer portal or anything else. Guys if they can do it, they're going to stay here, if not they can go find some place where they can play. We gotta go find someone else, we'll get someone."

On being a finalist for the UTEP job:
"Honestly it's a 50/50 deal. Half of it has to do with me and the other half has to do with our kids. You know, when you're successful in this profession people are going to want to talk to you. That goes back to the success we've had here, to coach McGuire and our players. That's why people are interested in and the other part is that I think maybe they kind of like some stuff that I did either from recruiting or coaching. It's not about me, it's about the people that have got me to where I need to be at... Yeah I do (want to be a head coach), the truth part of that is I'm not leaving Texas Tech just to go do that. There's a certain job that I like and I think there's a certain place I need to be at just because of my skills. But I'm not leaving Texas Tech just for any place."

On his involvement in conversations about Tahj Brooks' future:
"You know what just from my conversations with Tahj is you know, Tahj you gotta take care of Tahj Brooks and his family. You've done a lot for Texas Tech. And when that decision comes we're gonna support him, I've said that from the get go at the start of the year and then the end of the year, same thing. Our conversations were whatever you decide, we're behind you. Would I love to have him back? Hell yeah. But I also want Tahj to make that decision based on his career, as well. So yeah, I hope he comes back but if not, it's the same thing as the punter situation, we gotta go find somebody."
