I was able to talk to Kliff Kingsbury and Dakota Allen after practice today. Here are a few notes….
-All eyes are on Pat Mahomes’ injury this week. Today, he wasted little time, as he stepped off the practice field and went directly to the training room. Kliff Kingsbury spoke on what he saw from his quarterback in, and how he feels about him missing practice time this week.
“He’s still day to day. (We’re) seeing how he recovers throughout the week, and if he can’t play his game then he won't go and if he can, he will. We’re just gonna see how it loosens up and see how it feels” said Kingsbury.
“I think he can miss practice time. What i'm worried about is it limiting his game. As you know, a big part of his game is being able to move around (and) extend plays; the quarterback run stuff. Even Saturday he was having some trouble stepping into some of his throws there at the end so if he’s not able to play up to his potential, we’ll rest him and go to the next one.”
-Inside Linebacker Dakota Allen has been quietly having a fantastic season on David Gibbs' defense. In fact, he's currently tied with Micah Awe for the team’s leading tackler with 34 tackles. Today, he spoke about his experience as a starter thus far, playing alongside veterans like Micah Awe, and his big tackle on the goal line in the waning moments of the game last weekend.
“It’s been amazing, (it’s) everything i ever dreamed about, because i redshirted last year so i had to work real hard in the offseason. It just feels good to be back on the field” said Allen. “The speed is a lot faster than what it was in high school, but i feel like I've tried my best to adjust.”
“I definitely look up to guys like Micah Awe. He works hard, he’s always watching film, he’s always getting me to go watch film with him. I just feel that’s a big thing so we can bond as a team, and hopefully play together as a team.”
What were his thoughts on the dramatic tackle he made on the goal line?
“That was an amazing feeling. I’ve never been in a stadium that loud so after i made that tackle, it was probably the best feeling i've ever had in my life” said Allen.
