I will be updating this thread over the next hour with updates from Kliff Kingsbury's weekly radio show.
- "If those two numbers (turnovers and penalties) are down, we're going to be in good shape."
- "I think people that watch him week in and week out recognize (Pat Mahomes) for the talent he is."
- Kingsbury said that more people nationally will "soon" know Mahomes if they don't already.
- Kingsbury said the 3rd and 30 that Texas Tech converted against Iowa State was the longest third down one of his offenses has ever converted.
- Ja'Deion High took home the WWE title belt that's given to the wideout who blocks the best in the last game.
- Tony Brown received Texas Tech's "Effort Play of the Week" and "it wasn't even close" for his two knockdown blocks on Jakeem Grant's 75-yard touchdown against Iowa State.
- Kingsbury was mum on whether Devin Lauderdale would return to action this week against Kansas.
- "I can't say enough about what that defensive side is doing. [...] It's been good for our program."
- Kingsbury on Demarcus Felton: "The team loves him. They always tell us that we're sleeping on him. Every time he touches it in scrimmages and practice, he can find the hole. [...] He may have the best vision of all of them, just in terms of seeing the hole."
- Kingsbury said that Nic Shimonek and Davis Webb could be starting for a lot of FBS programs right now.
- "I'm not going to say (Mahomes is) the best (in the country), but I don't know that there's anybody better. I'll just say that. He's getting better every week."
- Kingsbury's favorite color is black. (Someone should tell Kingsbury that black is technically not a color.)
- Kingsbury said that Mahomes threw a ball into a trash can from 65-yards out this past week.
- Kingsbury said that Tom Brady is the hardest worker that he's ever been around.
- Kingsbury's favorite thing about Lubbock is the people. "It doesn't compare. Anywhere you go. Even last year, going through a bad year, everybody I saw around town couldn't have been more supportive."
- Kingsbury's pregame ritual: "I try to dap up every player before we kick off. I don't always get them all, but I get close."
- "I think we're going to see the Maze Runner 2 this week."
- Kingsbury complained a bit about the movies that have come out this fall, but did said The Martian was solid.
- Kingsbury said Saturday was probably the first time his offense has ever used four different quarterbacks in a game.
- "I'm an Axe hair product guy."
- "We're going to play to win just like we have every other week."
- "I think (Kansas) had 12 guys get in NFL camps off of that team (last year)."
- "They're battling through some things but they're going to put out a good gameplan and we're going to have to play well."
- "They hired a guy from Cal, which is more of the Tony Franklin system, but you can see some of coach Beaty's aspects in the offense."
- Kingsbury likes the early kickoffs for road games: "You don't like sitting around the hotel all day. Guys get antsy and it's boring."
- "I've seen a lot of maturity this week in the way (the team) has prepared."
- Chiaverini on Ja'Deion High: "The guy has just worked his butt off all camp. When he's had opportunity, he's made plays."
- Tony Brown played 70-plus snaps against Iowa State.
- "The ceiling is huge for those (freshmen receivers)."
- Chiaverini said the expectations have been raised for those freshmen receivers since they've already played so much.
- Chiaverini, who appeared in The Longest Yard remake several years ago, said he consistently gets $5 or $6 a month from the movie residuals.
- "I've been really, really pleased with the way Clayton Hatfield has stepped up and made kicks when he's had opportunities."
- Chiaverini said that the competition is still going on at kicker, but right now they've settled on Hatfield.
- Michael Barden could potentially get a look at punter next year.
- "I've been pleased with the effort (on special teams). [...] A lot of true freshmen have been playing on coverage units and getting experience that you can't experience without playing in a game."
- "The film shows that they play hard on special teams, they play hard on defense. [...] I give them credit because those guys do play hard."
- "We're as explosive as anybody in the country."
- "Good college football teams get better in the second half of the season. [...] They move forward and they're not making the same mistakes that they made in the first half of the season."
