- Kingsbury said he likes how the team has responded coming off of a tough loss to Baylor.
- "I think (the seniors will) have our group focused."
- Kingsbury said a lot of Texas Tech's penalty issues last week were due to Baylor's talent level.
- "(Le'Raven Clark) was highly motivated, which he has been his whole senior year. [...] He was fired up for that one and I thought he played well."
- Kingsbury said there have been more NFL scouts in the football building this week. The implication was that Clark's performance against Shawn Oakman made them take notice.
- Kingsbury said Mahomes is "still not where he wants to be" health-wise.
- "Very proud of Zach Austin, what he was able to do (against Baylor)."
- "You don't want to lose two games in a row ever, but I feel like we got better as a team (over the last three games)."
- "I thought we started fast offensively (against Baylor). Defensively, not so much. The week before, we started slow on offense."
- Kingsbury said the team practiced in the Athletic Training Facility (The Bubble) today in "limited space" due to weather.
- Kingsbury is full onboard with bringing the Red Raider Wrap back to the concession stands at Jones Stadium.
- "(Mahomes) does almost everything better than I did. I really like the way he handles himself as a leader. He's not a rah-rah, over-the-top guy. He knows when to speak."
- "Any time you get a big commitment, you're excited as a staff. [...] When you get a big recruit, it's a huge deal for your program. That will definitely help us moving forward."
- Kingsbury said that Cam Batson is the most well-rounded player on the Texas Tech football team.
- "They've had success this year (on defense). They're ranked high in the conference in terms of points allowed."
- Kingsbury said he has a "tremendous amount of respect" for what Mark Mangino did at Kansas.
- Kingsbury said he really likes where his team's heads have been at this week.
- Who's the Homecoming King on the Texas Tech football roster? "Probably DeAndre Washington."
- Zac Spavital said he first got to know David Gibbs when Gibbs, between jobs at that point, would visit Houston's football facility every week and watch college film, sit in meetings, etc. Gibbs, of course, would eventually be hired as UH's defensive coordinator.
- Spavital on his brother, Jake, who calls offensive plays for Texas A&M: "He's obviously smarter than I am, being on the offensive side in college football right now."
- Spavital noted he's 0-3 in Jones Stadium as an opponent -- Oklahoma 2005, Oklahoma 2007 and Houston 2010.
- Spavital said that Bob Stoops played a "big part" in Spavital's coaching career.
- "Micah (Awe) is a great young man. He's adapted to everything really well. He's also a leader."
- Spavital said Awe is "all-in" with everything that he does.
- Spavital said he's been following D'Vonta Hinton since his sophomore year in high school, noted that they tried really hard to get him at Houston. "He's only going to get better."
- "They (ISU) are a very well-coached football team. I actually know the guys on offense there and they've obviously done a great job. [...] They're just one of those teams that forces you to be very disciplined in alignment and assignment."
