According to a report in the Charleston Gazette-Mail, WVU and Dana Holgorsen are no longer discussing a contract extension.
This, on the heels of cornerbacks coach Brian Mitchell bolting for Virginia Tech due to "job security" issues, makes the situation around the football program in Morgantown more tenuous, especially for the assistants.
The big question moving forward is how this impacts recruiting future classes. Coaches generally have at least 3-4 years under contract going forward for recruiting reasons as most kids don't want to sign for one coach not knowing if he'll be around for his entire collegiate career.
I, for one, don't know what to make of this situation. Yes, there's the recruiting implications, but other than that, is it really a big deal or any different than a contract "just to have a contract" on the books for recruits? Sure, there are obvious financial implications for Dana and the University, but I don't know how much this changes the program outlook as a whole heading into next season.
It's certainly not good to have the head football coach without a contract extension. How much of an effect will it have, if any?
