USA Today's Steve Berkowitz apparently has a copy of Chris Beard's new contract and has been tweeting details about the new deal.
Highlights from Berkowitz's reporting:
- Beard's annual pay will start at $2.8 million next season and increase by $100,000 every year.
- Texas Tech will pay Beard a $750,000 retention bonus if he is the program's head coach on Sept. 1, 2020.
- The university is on the hook for 80 percent (currently more than $12 million) of the remaining compensation if it fires Beard without cause.
