Yes, today was my last day hosting Tech Talk on Double T 97.3. I walked into Ramar Communications in the fall of 2005 with Robert Giovannetti and left today after a fun and rewarding 17 years.
I will definitely miss it. I took the role I had with the show very seriously, I tried to be fair and earn the trust of the listeners by being accurate and prepared every single day. I probably fell short on occasion but I damn sure tried. I also want to thank Brad Moran and Jamie Lent for letting me continue to do the show for the last several weeks even though they knew I was leaving. Getting to say goodbye to an audience is pretty rare in radio, and I appreciate them giving me an opportunity to do that today.
I've really dreaded this day because closing day at summer camp always sucked for me. I just hate goodbyes and I don't deal with them well. I'm an emotional guy. I get emotionally attached, invested and care about people and about what I do. It is what it is but telling folks bye or feeling like you're letting someone down just crushes me.
I'm excited about getting to work over at Lubbock-Cooper ISD going forward. They are great people over there and I can't wait to be working alongside them. I think a lot of Keith Bryant, Max Kattwinkel and Chip Darden and view this as a great opportunity.
I'll still be on the air with Brian and John for Texas Tech football and with Hax for hoops so nothing changes there at all. I just wanted to try something different. I didn't take the decision lightly because I feel like I'm letting people down. I hope to be able fill in on Double T 97.3 or 100.7 The Score on occasion and maybe they'll call me some during football and basketball season, who knows.
Tech Talk will continue with Dickens and another co-host. It will keep going strong like it has for the last 17 years. Dickens and I had fun together and you're still stuck with us as a duo here. We hope to bring you a bit more of that going forward this fall.
Anyways, just felt the need to explain what went on today for those seeing posts about it, etc.
