Let me preface this by saying I'm a Wells supporter and believe he will get this turned around in a fair amount of time, but I'm impressed with what Mack Brown is doing at North Carolina.
I only bring this up because I was looking at some team recruiting rankings earlier this afternoon, and was surprised to see UNC has the No. 3 class in the country, a 3.43 average with 14 commits. They won't finish there, but I bet they finish in the top 10.
Man, I thought Brown's best days were behind him and he was looking for a nice Power 5 paycheck to ease into retirement and nothing but a retread, but I was wrong. While Brown was a recruiting machine at Texas in the first 2/3s of his tenure, the last few years had really fallen off by UT standards. But, damn, he's picking it back up again.
And his first year, UNC was 7-6, and this after back-to-back 9-loss seasons. In that was a 21-20 loss to Clemson and ending the year with a 41-10 win over rival NC State and 55-13 bowl win over Temple.
Even for just a second, seeing all that, I could't help but think if he would be doing something similar in Lubbock, or does Tech just have its own unique challenges -- particularly as it relates to recruiting -- that just makes it different.
