Saturday morning forecast
It's now up to a 40% chance for a storm in Lubbock this afternoon and evening. It's not a guarantee we'll have a lightning delay, there's no way to know exactly where storms will pop up. But the rain chance is looking better.
There an upper-level storm system now over western Oklahoma that's moving SW toward our area. The better chance for storms will be east and south of Lubbock, but a decent chance here. At this point it's just a matter of watching the radar and seeing where the storms do pop up.
Temperature forecast really hasn't changed...kickoff in the mid 80s, dropping to mid 70s late. Obviously if there is some rain it'll cool things off.
Friday morning forecast
The chance for a shower or thunderstorm Saturday is now a little higher...at 20%. There will be a weak storm system moving across the region, which will probably produce a few storms. But there's no way to know whether a storm will pop up in Lubbock or be well north or east of here.
Kickoff close to 84, dropping to mid 70s late. The wind will start out of the NW early in the day, shifting out of the E by afternoon 5-12 mph. High temp during the UTEP game was also 84.
Thursday morning update
Temperature forecast hasn't changed...mid 80s at the kick, dropping a few degrees late.
There is a slim chance for a shower or thunderstorm in the afternoon. This isn't some big storm system headed this way or a powerful front moving through, which would bring a real good chance for rain. It's one of these setups where it probably will just lead to some clouds through the day, but a couple showers or storms in the area can't be ruled out. It's a 10% t-storm chance...which of course means 90% chance for no t-storms.
Tuesday afternoon update
Right now it looks like Saturday's high will be in the low-mid 80s...high should happen during first half, drop a few degrees by end of game. Right now the rain chance looks pretty low.
Comparing to opening game...sunset then was 8:08, sunset this Saturday is 7:39. And kickoff, of course, is an hour 15 minutes later...just to give perspective on the shade showing up earlier than that game.
