9 a.m. Saturday update
Right now it's 63 in Lubbock, wind out of the south at 17 gusting to 24mph. We've had clouds in place past few hours, but these are starting to break up. Sunshine will increase through the day. Forecast is on track...kickoff lower 70s, end of the game lower 80s. Breezy south wind becoming westerly, bringing in drier air.
A lot can change in seven days, but an early look shows a cold night in Norman next week.
Friday afternoon update
No change to the forecast...wind out of the south 10-20mph tonight will shift to a westerly wind 10-20mph tomorrow afternoon at Jones Stadium...occasionally some higher gusts. It'll likely be cloudy in the morning, with it clearing up by about 10 or 11. Lots of sun during the game. Kickoff lower 70s, end of the game lower 80s.
There's a low chance for a storm east of Lubbock late tomorrow afternoon, if you're headed east. A storm is possible for the games in Austin, Waco and Fort Worth...though the chance is higher in those locations late tomorrow night. Risk for severe weather from Kansas to Oklahoma and North Texas late Saturday into early Sunday.
It will get cooler behind a front that moves through Saturday late afternoon/evening. Low Sunday morning in Lubbock near 41.
Thursday afternoon update
Warm and somewhat breezy Saturday. Kickoff in the lower 70s with a few clouds around. End of the game lower 80s. Sunscreen's probably a good idea with a lot of sun expected.
The wind will start out of the south in the morning, shifting out of the west during the afternoon. Wind speed during the game should average 12-20mph with occasional higher gusts. Not a windy day by West Texas standards, but more than we've seen past several games.
Tuesday afternoon update
Forecast on track...70s with a good amount of sun at the kick, high in the lower 80s. Storm chance late Saturday night doesn't look too high in Lubbock, is better farther off to the east.
Monday morning update
Right now it looks mild and mostly sunny for the game Saturday. I do expect a storm system to bring a chance for thunderstorms and cooler weather, but right now it looks like that storm chance is Saturday night into Sunday.
Kickoff Saturday in the 70s, high near 80. Sunday's high will be in the 60s. All this week will be sunny in Lubbock.
