I was going through my closet and found this shirt (pic below). It reminded of the day I got it in Lubbock, some of you may have gotten one too.
I came up to Lubbock to watch the WVU v. TTU game in 2016. I didn't bring any red raider gear with me because I wanted to buy some of the new stuff while I was in Lubbock. I left the Omni and walked over to Red Raider Outfitters game day morning to buy a polo. I bought one and then decided to walk back to the hotel and get ready for the game. I had the new shirt in a bag and was wearing a green shirt just because that's one I had packed. I was walking between Broadway and Glenna Goodacre, packed with all of the people tailgating, and a car passed me. When the car was passing me, the car slowed down and the driver looked at me pretty intently as he was going by. The car immediately pulled over right behind me and the driver started to get out.
Honestly, it kinda startled me a bit because I had no idea what was going on. A man gets out and says "Hey!", I didn't turn around because I was still a bit startled. Again, he yells, "Hey man!". So I turned around and said "Hey man, whats up?". The man then smiles and goes, "Are you tech fan, do you go here?". I said, "Yea! I sure am. I don't go here anymore but I'm an alumni, I graduated a few years ago." He then surprises me and just says, "what size shirt do you wear?" I'm still a bit confused at this point, but I told him I was a large. He then goes to his car, opens the trunk and brings me a shirt for me and another to give to someone else. We stood there and chatted for a minute, talked about the game, and he told me "Yea my son is Lonzell Gilmore, he is going to be playing Dline for tech this year. He's number 94, watch out for him, he's going to be really good for yall". I told him I knew of his son, because I follow recruiting on here, and I was really excited to watch him play. We shook hands, exchanged a guns up, and after that went our separate ways. Thought it was really awesome all the support his dad was showing for his son and Tech, passing out free shirts to complete strangers. I was a fan of Lonzell before that, but I've been a fan and really rooted for him since. Seems like his family and himself are great people! Here's to #94 leveling Ta'amu a few times on Saturday!
