This game should remind all of us that as exciting as our offense CAN be, football is still a game of blocking and tackling. With the pinball offenses that are in vogue, I think we as fans forget that if you can play good solid defense, run the ball and don't make silly mistakes, you should be successful.
I think the Kansas State program under Bill Snyder is a good example. I can't of anyone who has achieved more with less than Snyder. His teams are just fundamentally sound.
Coaches are the ones who instill the basics. Coaches are the ones who recruit the players you put on the field. Coaches are the ones who direct their troops and call the plays. If you lose, the coaches are ultimately responsible.
Great effort just isn't enough. The sad thing today is that when the offense scored, the defense disappeared. When the defense came on late, the offense couldn't produce.
This was a very winnable game and in my opinion, we beat ourselves.
