That was about as much fun as I may have ever had at a football game that was not a W.
Mahomes is a flat out warrior. Last week when we ate clock and drove the field, Mahomes was able to garner some key first downs with his legs. That was simply not available this time when we took the ball with approx. 4 minutes left. However...the kid battled like crazy.
I know many are bagging on Nelson. To me it looked like we were in zone 90% of the night and safety help was late arriving on many of their big plays to 9. Even with that ...Boykin was uncanny accurate many times as the windows appeared to be closing fast.
Outside of the idiots throwing water bottles...it was as good an atmosphere as I can remember at Jones Stadium. During one of the timeouts there was one of the most impressive sustained Raider Power chants the Tech crowd has ever done.
I would not have called timeout with .47 seconds in the first half.
So proud of the turnaround in penalties and turnovers. To me that shows some amazing coaching effort.
Without a fortuitous tipped ball bounce, the D would have held the TCU offense to 2 second half TD's even with Turpin giving them a short field on a kickoff return. I can see great progress with the D.
I have no idea what will happen next week. Russell is not as dangerous with his legs as Boykin so maybe we pressure him a bit more and that will lead to a couple of turnovers. If Mahomes is healthy we will give them all they want I know that.
