"A big part of Texas Tech’s 2015 recruiting class may not join the Red Raiders soon.

Four-star wide receiver J.F. Thomas will attend Trinity Valley Community College this fall, according to a source close to Thomas. Wreckem247 first reported last month that Thomas signed in February with the Red Raiders and Trinity Valley.

A source at Trinity Valley said it’s “more than a coin flip [Thomas is] coming [to Trinity Valley]” and that the team feels “like it’s a good chance that he’s playing for Trinity Valley in the fall.”

The holdup for Thomas, the Trinity Valley source said, is passing one portion of his STARR and receiving a high-enough SAT score to balance his GPA. The source added the Red Raiders would wait as long as possible to see whether Thomas qualifies.

Wreckem247's efforts to contact the South Oak Cliff senior have been unsuccessful.

Most of Tech’s 2015 signees have enrolled in class for summer classes, but according to a representative at the Center of Campus Life, Thomas has yet to enroll.

Thomas flipped his commitment from TCU to Tech on national signing day after Tech hired former South Oak Cliff coach Emmett Jones as its director of player development.

Losing Thomas would drop the Red Raiders’ 2015 recruiting class from No. 32 nationally to No. 41 and from No. 3 in the Big 12 to No. 7 in 247Sports' team rankings.

The 6-foot-4, 185-pound Thomas was the No. 22 wide receiver and No. 178 player overall, according to 247Sports’ Composite Rating. He caught 75 passes for 1,597 yards and 26 touchdowns last fall for South Oak Cliff.

The Red Raiders signed six wide receivers, including Thomas, in their 2015 recruiting class. That group is highlighted by three-star recruits Tony Brown and Keke Coutee.

Speculation about Thomas’ qualifying status began after TCU coach Gary Patterson said he wasn’t surprised about Thomas’ decision to flip his commitment and after Patterson didn’t ask Thomas to make an official visit.

The Red Raiders had three members of their 22-player 2014 recruiting class not join the team last fall. Byron Daniels and Shaquille Davis went to other schools, and Connor Wilson experienced an unspecified medical issue."
