So I posted in the storms thread about my parents home being destroyed during the tornado on Monday. Many of you offered prayers and kind words so I wanted to update you and share their story, it’s quite incredible!
I heard there were tornado warnings in the Graham/Bryson area (just south of Jacksboro). So I called my mom to see how things were looking, she didn’t seem all that concerned, but planned on getting the cars under covered areas to avoid hail damage. Not 20 minutes later I get a call from my sister telling me she just talked to mom they’ve lost everything.
By the grace of God, my parents were not home. As I said, they were mistakingly not that concerned about anything more than hail damage. My dad JUST bought a new truck, so this was no small concern. Luckily, last minute they (my mom, dad, and little brother) got in the truck to drive to a covered area. This saved their life. I don’t believe anyone could have survived inside the home.
The past few days have been very hard! But the overwhelming emotion I have felt is gratitude that they all decided to get in that truck. What’s amazing is that they were the only residents on their street that was not home when it hit, and their home was by far hit the hardest. There’s an odd sense of thankfulness that it was my parents house, the only empty one, that took the biggest hit. It destroyed their home, but those that stayed home are safe!
It’s hard to overstate the devastation, they lost just about everything. Here are a couple of news features on my parents and their neighbors.
There is a GoFundMe set up to help my parents attempt to rebuild their lives. We’re not asking for anything more than prayers for the entire community, but I will share that link for anyone that feels inclined to be a blessing to the two most amazing people I’ve ever met.
Thanks again for the prayers!
