iPhone 6 to Android Text Issues

I can send/receive group texts to android users, but individual text messages will not go through. I've searched for solutions online, but can't find anything that works. Turned iMessage off, send as sms on/off, etc. Turned iMessage off on my iPad. Wanted to see if anyone had a solution or idea before I head to the at&t store. TIA
