Conservatives have forfeited any claims to "morals", "Christian Values," and "family values."
Conservatives, as of last night have forfeited any claims to "fiscally conservative", "free market", and "capitalism".
I find this interesting, that the two staples of conservative ideology have been openly, and quite clearly given up, in very public demonstrations.
Long term, like the corporatists Dems, this will fundamentally cause the party to collapse. Since none of the classic arguments against progressive policies carry any weight, the attempt to use such narratives at a future junction will simply be dismissed outright.
What we did learn last night is this- the last ounce of truth in the GOP is gone, and a full scale corporate raid on the treasury at the expense of the tax payers in coming.
On the progressive end, this is ultimately a good thing, having no authority to denounce things like universal healthcare as "socialist" and "wealth distribution" and "a danger to markets". Free healthcare and affordable education would improve our society far more than the 1pct getting everything they want, like taxpayer money, ability to destroy the environment, ability to rip off consumers, ability to stash their money off shore, and the ability to park their jets tax free. There is no debate about this any longer.
I am curious if those that call themselves conservative understand that in 2 years (before the real pillaging of tax payers even begins), when all of the "accomplishments" of the trump era are being dismantled by congress, I wonder if the average conservative is going to feel like the forfeiture of ethics, ideology, and credibility will be worth it? Having not really benefitted, and most "conservatives" who voter for Trump will be worse off, I wonder if their vitriol will only worsen, or if rthey will be capable of understanding that they themselves have allowed this to occur?
