I"m not convinced it is Arkansas. Reading some of the other threads and reading articles by sportswriters would suggest that we have no business being on the field with Arky. Some of you have suggested we have zero chance. ZERO CHANCE. Why even show up if that is the case?
I understand that Arkansas' strength is what our weakness has been over the past umpteen years, but...
I believe we will be considerably better in run D in 2015--it may well be the strength of our defense if
our linebackers can fill a hole adequately.
While Arkansas may not be completely one dimensional, they became that way (because they could)
against Tech last season. Our D isn't bad enough, and their O won't be good enough to get away with
being one dimensional.
We had a chance to be very much in that game last year, but turned it over, committed too many penalties
and generally made too many mistakes which absolutely killed us. We were not disciplined. We did not
play intelligent gap football, and Arkansas took advantage of that. I think we are better than that this
year.
David Gibbs is much sounder than Wally, and thus, our D will be sounder.
I will be amazed if our offense isn't much, much better than what Arkansas saw of Tech last season.
We just were not very good. We will be this season.
The rest of our staff has one additional year of experience. Yes, Arkansas' staff does as well, but in our
case, one additional year is like a 20% + jump in experience level whereas one additional year at
Arkansas is like a 5% jump.
I believe this points can make up a big difference in points scored end points allowed.
Take these thoughts into consideration the next time you say we have not chance against Arky. That is suggesting that Arkansas would win the Big 12 were they in it. I don't believe they would.
