I'm about to enter my 56th year and after a lifetime of running I have started to feel the effects of that activity in my knees. A friend of mine was going through the same issues last year and bought a hybrid bike- looks regular but has square handlebars and big fat tires.
After 3 months of chasing bikes on Craigslist I finally went to the Richardson Bike Mart. I bought a hybrid bike and by the time I was out the door with a helmet I was into this new phase of life for around $800.
When I got on this bike Monday I believe I broke a string of almost 30 years of no bike riding. The first couple of rides were unnerving. Today I finished my morning ride (trying to do it daily) and I am starting to feel comfortable. The seat is as thin as a paint stirring stick so I am easing into that feature of this bike.
Thanks to the poster from last week that indicated he had lost around 45 pounds (skinewmexico?) after riding for some time. While I have no delusions of that sort of weight loss it can't hurt.
