Since everyone is throwing out hypotheticals I'll chime in.
There are some on here convinced that Kliff comes back next year even if we lose out and finish 4-8, allegedly sourcing "people in the know". I'm definitely not in favor of this, but should Kliff return due to finances or to be given another year with little signs of improvement, what the hell do we do if Gibbs bolts somewhere else??
I mean, he hasn't really stayed around longer than 3 years at most places, and he's gotta see the writing on the wall for Kliff knowing his time is limited if we lose out or miss out on a bowl game. He's got a ton of experience coming back next year, but ultimately he's gotta look out for him and his family.
So, if this scenario plays out and we have to start over on defense, isn't it wise just to fire Kliff and restart with a new staff? I can't imagine many established defensive coordinators would be chomping at the bit to come work for Kliff in another make or break year with a historically awful defense.
Thoughts?
