I've been thinking about this since Bernie released his Green New Deal. I think it's hilarious that both his and AOC's Green New Deals are hawked as bills to protect the environment. AOC's was super batshit, bernie's is batshit pushing on super batshit. Neither of these would pass the House alone. Primarily because they're unrealistic, would cost thousands of jobs (these people would be re-trained on the gov's dime), etc...
Whether or not you believe in Climate Change & believe in it being the biggest issue, it's fair to argue that it should be combated so long as it doesn't wreck the economy in the process.
Considering China & India makeup for appx 35% of CO2 emissions, wouldn't it make the most sense to focus on working with them to reduce their emissions first? Set up deals for discounted LNG for x amount of years while American companies work w/ the state-owned Chinese plants to switch from Coal Boilers to LNG Boilers (which are cleaner & cheaper) while introducing Carbon-Recapture Tech.
Do the same w/ India. I work in the industry, this would be at least a decade's worth of work, jobs that pay over 100K/yr, increase demand for skilled labor in the US (higher wages), increase global demand for our nations LNG, & reduce greenhouse emissions world wide... I don't see how this isn't the best place to start.
I'd also be for demanding all US Industrial Plants to incorporate Carbon-Recapture Technology where it works. More work, more higher paying jobs, less emissions.
Lastly, instead of unreliable/inefficient Solar & Wind, which have been subsidized greatly for a long time... The government should Subsidize the building of new nuclear plants.
Nuclear energy is incredibly efficient. These plants cost billions to build, but w/ subsidies more would be built - providing cleaner, more efficient energy for decades to come. Also, the number of skilled labor jobs paying over 100K to build, as well as operate, would grow dramatically.
