That was fun. Really happy that Tech was able to roll past the Mountaineers and send out the seniors on the right note. Lot of fun, and hopefully that this program can finish strongly in a bowl game to put the bow on the best regular season since 2009.
Some scattershot thoughts on the day as a whole…
Morton, Kittley in rhythm: Really impressive day for the offensive coordinator and quarterback, sans the interception. I thought that Morton played his best game of the season, largely due to the first half. Lot of in rhythm and on target throws, and a large part of that had to do with Tech’s pass protection. Lot of schemed up winners from Kittley as well, largely a good day. Would’ve liked to have more low-red zone success early, but it didn’t come close to mattering.
Tahj Time: What a career. It’s been a pleasure to cover 28 and he went out on the right note. A capstone day to cap off a stellar year and an all-time career. So happy that he was able to be sent out on a win.
Big Days from Seniors: Really impressive day from a ton of seniors. The tight ends got their fair share of targets while CJ Baskerville and Jacob Rodriguez (I know, he can come back) had excellent days defensively. Fun to see those guys ball out one last time.
DeRuyter scheming it up: Thought Tim called a really nice game. Ton of pressures on money downs and Tech posted it’s best first half havoc rate of the season. Had Greene in bad spots, which was a ton of fun to watch. We will see what the future holds but I’m excited about some of the young pieces on this defense.
Terrell Tilmon’s big day: Tilmon has flashed a good bit this season and finally put it together. Not bad for a walk-on. Really good for him to put together a strong showing, and I’ll be curious what he can parlay this year into heading into next. He was really strong as a pass rusher at times this year.
Fun season with meat still on the bone: Obviously we want more, but this program is moving in the right direction. The roster is in a great position heading into portal season and signing day. Trust the process, this is going to be a great time for Tech football.
