I haven’t seen this discussed yet, if so it’s buried.

On our final possession in regulation, Josh Kelly caught a 15 yd pass on 2nd and 16 to set up at 3rd and 1 on the 25. Game clock was running with 4:00 left to play. We were easily in FG range at that point. We subsequently snapped the ball early on the following 3 plays with the game clock running with a total of 59 seconds left on the play clock on those three plays. The next time the game clock would stop is when we threw an incomplete pass to the end zone on 2nd and 1. The following play was a false start with our back up QB in the game. This created a 3rd and 6 in which the targeted receiver (Kelly) ran a flat route 2 yds short of the line to gain.

Why are we still in hurry up offense in that situation?

We have one of the best short yardage backs in the country with two chances to convert a one yard gain when it’s 2nd and 1 and we decide to be cute. Why were we not running more clock and forcing ACU to spend their timeouts? This is inexcusable in my mind. It’s a failure of both the HC and OC.
