Colleges will begin offering additional scholarship benefits with the upcoming school year in August. Under rules passed by the NCAA, colleges will be able to provide for the full cost of scholarship athletes' attendance. Previously, colleges could cover only the cost of a basic scholarship - tuition, room and board, fees and books. The extra money is designed to help cover athletes' out-of-pocket expenses, including travel and cellphone bills. The numbers are based on a nine-month academic calendar. And students who stay for summer school could receive additional money.
Below are the amounts each FBS school in Texas will provide for the upcoming school year, according to research and interviews with school athletic directors across the state:
Baylor: $3,882
Houston: $2,994
North Texas: Unavailable
Rice : TBD
SMU: $2,700
Texas: $4,310
Texas A&M: $2,706
TCU : $4,700
Texas Southern: TBD
Texas Tech: $5,100
UTEP: $3,100
UTSA: $2,500 (projected)
