Curious if you guys have any crazy stories of any drama/exchanging of words/fights with other Tech fans?
Today at the Jones my cousin met up with me in my section at the start of the 2nd (I watched the first quarter by myself) and we watched the game like everyone else did. We haven’t seen each other in a year so we were talking during timeouts/TV breaks and occasionally between plays. Having a normal conversation at a normal volume. 80-90 percent of what we discussed was about Tech football. We didn’t think we were doing anything out of the ordinary. People talk to each other.
Then at the start of the 3rd quarter this couple, about 55-60 years old directly in front of me decided to stand up and not sit down. Multiple people behind us were yelling at them to sit down. I did not say anything for a long time because I didn’t want to be “that guy.” About 30 minutes pass and they are still standing. I politely tap on the guys shoulder and ask them if they could sit down just for a little bit. His wife turns around and yells at me “THIS IS THE DEAL! We’ll sit down when you shut the hell up. You’ve been chatting in our ear the whole game!” I try to be a peacemaker because we are both season ticket holders and don’t want awkwardness the rest of the season but they continue to make this a big deal. A couple behind me who was friendly to us went and got the usher to ask them to sit down and they continued to complain about me to the usher. Meanwhile, about 8-10 people behind us are yelling at them to sit down or leave. I am just completely in shock at what is happening. Then they decide to leave. I apologized for the trouble but they didn’t want to hear it.
After they volunteered to leave when they didn’t have to their buddy and even older guy next to them starts yelling at me as well. Tells me I haven’t watched any of the game and have just been talking. Which was the furthest thing from the truth. I probably saw 97-99% of the snaps today. I try to explain myself to have him yell “They had to leave the game because of you!”
Would have been nice if the couple just politely told me my conversation was annoying them rather than just block my view and the view of others around us. I asked others around us and they all said they didn’t have a problem with me. I’ve never been involved in a heated exchange like that at a sports event before with my own fans. Looking back I wish I had argued with them more. Whole thing was laughable.
Anyway, just wanted to see if you guys have ever gotten into it with other Red Raiders in the stands. Feel free to share!
